I went to swim in a public indoor swimming today (as the chlorine in it) and I swam a lot with my eyes open, and now my eyes hurt and my eye sight is a vague tip. are there any long-term side effects of this, or it gets better soon?
I'm 6'2-6'3 215ish pounds and I gained 30 pounds of muscle mass in the last 7-8 months, but I'm about 16% body fat, and I want to close to 9%, my abs are ripped will. Swimming is the best way it runs over body fat to lose?
If yes, how many feet should I swim every day? I mainly just before and crawl breaststroke. Any other suggestions will help. Thank you.
Dogs are land mammals and are not born knowing how to swim. Occasionally a young dog will wade right in and go, but most pups need a gentle introduction and some encouragement to swim.
When I can, I start my pups on the water as soon as I bring them home, but the techniques are the same for pups and grown dogs.
The main point to remember when introducing a pup to the water is don’t push or rush him. Give the pup a reason to want to swim, either to retrieve, to follow you, or to chase another dog, and then allow him to choose to swim.
Once the pup knows he can swim, be sure to supply sufficient practice so he can learn to swim well. Much later in training you can work on force fetch and obedience to commands on the water.
Do not force or throw the dog in the water. He knows he doesn’t naturally know how to swim, and if you rush him he may panic. If you make your pup afraid of the water your job will be much harder.
How to Help Your Pup Learn to Swim
The best set-up for getting him started swimming is warm water, a warm day, and a bottom that drops off gradually. I usually wade in and walk or play with other dogs in the water. If you have a shallow stream, a long walk on a hot day is perfect. Your pup will feel good about the trip and sooner or later he will find himself in over his shoulders and swimming.
If your pup likes to retrieve, throw bumpers or balls where he can still keep his feet on the bottom and retrieve. As he settles in and becomes more comfortable, gradually throw his toy or bumper farther out, at some point he will have to swim to get it.
Sometimes I wade in holding the pup and have my wife or helper stand a short distance away in the water. I gently lower the pup into the water and release him when he begins to swim. We call the pup back and forth. As he gains confidence we back away from each other so he must swim farther each time.
One of my training ponds has a small island 50 feet long and 20 feet wide. This island is only 60 feet from the nearest shore. Big dogs can walk most of the way across but must swim a bit in the middle to get to shore. I have rowed a reluctant swimmer out in a john boat and left him on the island and rowed away. I call him to the boat a short distance from shore, or I work dogs on the shore and wait. No dog has stayed on the island long.
Swimming Stages
When they begin to swim most pups will swim with the front end only. This results in a head-up, splashing stroke that is not very effective or efficient. This “puppy splashing” is common. With more experience a pup will engage his rear end and level out and swim.
Typically, a new swimmer will start by splashing his way out and back to retrieve his bumper or ball. At some point you’ll observe that he splashes out to retrieve but swims on the return.
Once they begin to swim well on the return, it’s just a short time until most dogs begin to swim on the way out, too.
Some pups will go through these stages in one day, some in a week. Most dogs introduced to the water after six months of age take a little longer to work through these stages. Over the years I have had a few dogs that splashed for eight or 10 weeks before they swam well. With enough time, even the most determined splashers eventually learned to dig in and swim.
A final caution: be very careful about training on cold water. Cold water can be very uncomfortable and once your dog learns he doesn’t like cold water I don’t think you can change his mind. While dogs can and do hunt in water that is iced over, the rewards built into hunting are huge and regular. In training dogs must often repeat and put out great effort, usually for the small reward of a plastic bumper. Some trainers like 56-degree water, while others say 60 degrees is their preferred water temperature for training. For pups I want it warmer than that, with warm air temperatures as well.
Some kids learn to swim before they can walk, probably because they have parents who like to spend a lot of time in the water so naturally they take the kids swimming. Kids whose parents don’t swim are pretty likely to learn to swim at an older age than kids whose parents do swim. And some kids never learn to swim and become adults who can’t fully enjoy pool or beach parties, or evening swimming with their own kids.
A good way to avoid this situation is to take adult swimming classes. A good place to look for adult swimming classes is your local YMCA or YWCA. These classes are a great place for an adult to learn to swim in the presence of other adults in the same situation, and they’re usually pretty affordable compared to other facilities’ swimming lessons.
Most of the classes “at the Y” will be broken down into groups of adults of different skill levels, from the person who’s nervous in the water and doesn’t like to get her face wet to the person who can swim a little but wants to feel more confident in the water and get some expert swimming instruction.
A beginner will be taught how to handle himself in the water, from the way to hold his body, to how to breathe and how to hold the limbs when attempting to float. Swimming classes like this will usually have practice sessions where everyone puts his or her face in the water and then lifts to breathe before trying it again. It’s a very gentle way to get used to being in the water and starting to feel comfortable with it.
Intermediate swimming lessons are for the adult who can swim a little or who needs to brush up on rusty swimming skills. And most facilities will offer some type of private swimming classes at a higher cost. Some adults simply feel more comfortable with private instruction. And some are too afraid of the water to be in a group while submerging his or her face or trying to float. They can learn to swim with this option.
Many adults who have always been unable or unwilling to learn to swim get interested in taking swimming lessons when they have kids of their own. Look in your local area for combined classes where adults can learn at the same time as their kids. Even if your kids can already swim a little, all kids should take swimming lessons and learn the basics properly to be able to take care of themselves in the water, so there’s no better time to learn to swim for yourself.
And if you have a small child, parent/infant or parent/toddler swimming classes may be available. The younger children are exposed to the water, the more likely they’ll grow up to be strong swimmers who enjoy the water. These types of swimming lessons can not only teach you to swim, but provide great bonding time for you and your child.
Whoever announces that pregnant ladies can’t use swim wear during their pregnancy is mistaken. Today, there are maternity swim suits or swimming gear specifically built to cater the requirements of pregnant women. With the creation of swimming gear for moms-to-be, ladies can now hit the beach, wear the newest fashion in bikinis and show that baby bump during summer escapades. Before, some pregnant girls had to suffer watching folk in enjoying the cool waters. Actually, these pregnant ladies just read books or prepared the food during a family outing.
Swimming in pregnancy is a very effective form of exercise because the water supports your bump and takes away the pressure from your back, particularly in the latter stages. But do women need maternity swim suits for pregnancy or could they make do with their standard swimsuits?
Actually, my aunt is sort of a water nymph for she loves water so much. However, the difficulty was that she had no swim-wear that fitted her. We all know that most beaches have a rule that requires swim wear for men and women.
Some girls like to show off their exposed bump while others like to keep the bump under wraps.
During her 2nd pregnancy, she was happy to discover that a lot of boutiques are selling plus size swim wear. She suspected, “Why not use a plus size? It fits me, so I will use it.” When we went to the beach, her plus size swim wear is not basically good for her body, since it makes her swim uncomfortably as if the swim wear does not fit her. In terms of size, and size swim wear can be constant but on the actual use, it’s not.
Another good style is the “baby doll” which hangs loose and covers your bump whilst the briefs are far more fitted.

Whatever style you opt for it is worth paying that bit more for a high quality swimming suit just because more attention will have been paid to design and comfort. Halter neck styles are great because they are able to be easily changed for additional support and styles that offer support around the bust are great for when your boobs start growing and becoming heavy. A good swimming suit should come with lined cups for restraint and if buying a style with separate shorts, then ones with tie sides are a good selection because they can be changed easily as you grow. Also choose a swimsuit that contains at least 20% spandex or lycra as this will give added support and help the costume maintain its shape in the water.
If you are going to be swimming on a regular basis then it’s a good idea to invest in a proper maternity swim suits as they are so much more content than a traditional swimming costume and some can be employed after the birth.
